A Day in the Life as a Soccer Mom!

Last Wednesday, my kids got to spend the day playing soccer with World Champion Brandi Chastain. You might remember her from her sports bra incident! She was amazing to watch--so strong, active, and personable. Brandi took time with each of my kids to give them tips and encouragement. My favorite was when she said Ella would be on the National Team in no time. Maybe Brandi's right . . . now all I have to do is sign Ella up for a class! Yikes.

And then guess who showed up?

Well, hello Kelly Ripa! I was curious to see what her off camera personality would be like. She was surprisingly really charming, a little nerdy, and shamelessly self deprecating. Love those qualities in a woman. I'm a new fan!

My kids came home exhausted. What a fabulous day! Beyond all the fun and games, I was excited to have my kids meet exceptional female role models. I love that Kelly and Brandi are examples of women who are trying to balance motherhood and exciting careers. So inspiring.  Who are some of the women you look up to? It only seems right to ask. It's Women's History Month after all!

This event was sponsored by Electrolux. Head over to Facebook to share your proud parent moments – everything from scoring the winning goal to the family campout in the backyard! 1. Wow! Thank you Brandi for all the nice things you said. I just got the soccer ball you autographed in the mail yesterday. My kids haven't stopped playing with it!! You're the best!

  2. My very first week of living in NYC, Kelly Ripa was the first celebrity I saw out in the wild, shopping at Pearl River Mart. She stood politely and let tourists take her photo. Poor, sweet lady.

  3. What a great experience for them - v cool. And how drop dead gorgeous are those kids of yours? So cute!

  4. Sharon, I had a great time with Oscar, Owen and Ella. They are all so uniquely special. Oscar is sensitive, Owen wants to show off his skill and Ella, well, mildly put, is a spitfire! I know she I little, but please do give her a chance to play more soccer. It doesn't have to be in an organized fashion, but just as pick up with the neighbors, or in the park. She has tremendous natural athletic ability, and that is a precious quality for girls and should be unleashed as often as possible. The look of complete happiness was present on her face the entire time she was on the field and her desire to hunt down the ball and score goals, just amazing.
Thanks for bring the three of them to the event, it was nice to meet you all.

  5. You are a pretty inspiring woman who balances motherhood and an exciting career! I hope my daughter will get to have half as much fun as your kids!

  6. Wow! Your kids are lucky to get to experience so many different things. Sports, the arts, music... I guess those are all the pros of living in a big city! And pretty cool that you keep running into celebrities!

  7. Those really are great qualities in a woman. (And I'd say you've got 'em too!)

  8. brandi chastain...how cool! i love how you're always meeting celebs. so very nyc of you :)

  9. NO WAY! I was obsessed with the US Women's soccer team growing up-Mia Hamm, Brandi Chastain, everyone! I had posters all over my room, including the sports bra incident poster! Ha! That's really cool that your kids got to have that experience! I read your post about Ella's ballet class the other day, and I totally get where you're coming from. I've seen so many people (myself included) who grew up constantly going from practice to practice, spending so much time doing certain things, and then, after high school or college when they don't have the opportunities to continue those things, they have NO idea what to do. You lose your identity to those things, and once it's over, you've never really discovered who you are, and you're left confused! It seems like your kids have a lot of fun doing various activities. They're so cultured already, at such young ages, and that will be highly beneficial to them in life!
