Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade 101

Hi! Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend! Did you watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV?  Ever thought of watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade live? Do it. It completely exceeded my expectations. And mine were high! Today I'll focus on practical tips if you want front row seats.

1. One person from your party must pick a spot on the parade route by 5:30am at the LATEST. Bring tarp and blankets to claim your small piece of land.

2. Location: Anywhere along the parade route on Central Park West on the park side of the street. See below.

3. Send the kids over by 7:15am because the police WON'T let you cross over to the park side after that. See below.

4. The bigger the group you watch the parade with, the better! It was like a huge playdate for my kids. Someone in our party even brought a small tent! The kids played in it until it was disassembled minutes before the parade started. So fun!

5. My feet froze! I should have worn snow boots or something similar.
6. Convince your kids to wear diapers! My boys did! ha
7. Don't expect to have the energy to cook a Thanksgiving meal after the parade. We were exhausted. We got home at 12:30pm, took long naps, and went over to our cousin's house in Harlem at 5pm. The timing was perfect.
8. Take a family photo. I forgot.
9. I'll keep adding to this list when I think of more. What did I miss?

My favorite parade moments tomorrow!

  1. You are right, getting there early is so important! Glad you and yours had a great time. We failed to cook dinner and opted for naps as well. Kindred spirits. :)

  3. We had a great thanksgiving. But the Macy's parade looks very tempting. Maybe when the kids get older. Thanks for the tips!

  4. I was in New York for Thanksgiving in 2001 - I was at friends upstate for Thanksgiving itself so I went to the balloon inflating the day before which was so much fun too! So if you can't go on the day itself or don't want the crowds then go see them inflating the balloons the day before.

Glad you had a good time!

  5. Thanksgiving Day is coming soon. I am always convinced that Thanksgiving Day is a holiday when we thank our family and friends for their love, support and help during the year. Then, how do you usually express your gratitude to the beloved people around you? As far as I am concerned, to select wonderful gifts for them is a pretty good idea. For instance, if you want to buy a car DVD player for your father as a Thanksgiving Day gift, you need to do some preparation.
